The increased demand should mean more opportunity to start a transcription side hustle, but many sites have wait lists for gig workers. At any rate, we’ve covered several transcription companies already, and another player in the market is Speechpad.
Who is Speechpad?
According to their web site, “Speechpad provides transcription, captioning and translation services to a diverse international customer base. To get the work done, we use a crowd-sourced workforce, web based tools, and a multi-stage quality assurance process.”
They were founded in 2008.

Visit the application page to apply. They are currently not accepting new gig workers, but that could change at any time depending on demand. Here are the highlights of getting paid by Speechpad:
- They state that “for transcription jobs, the pay ranges from $0.25/min for entry-level work to as high as $1.00/min for jobs requiring more experience.”
- “Captioning jobs pay between $.30/min and $1.00/min. Review jobs range from $0.20/min for entry-level work, up to $1.00/min for premium captions review.”
- Speed and accuracy are key factors in terms of earnings.
- Thei payment method is Paypal.
- Speechpads issues payments every Thursday.
- This is a 1099 position, so be sure to account for taxes.
Conclusion
Results on a platform like Speechpad are highly individualized. I wasn’t able to find data on what the average worker makes with Speechpad, or any data on average annual earnings. They do have a general FAQ page, and they have offer both phone and web support.
